Our Founder, Peter Lehmann, was a fifth generation Barossan, a man who had grown up working in wine his whole life. His longstanding love and passion for the Barossa truly came to the fore during the vintage of 1978. A serious grape surplus in 1978 led to many wine companies cancelling their agreements and turning their backs on local growers. Peter knew this would be detrimental to the wine region and growers, many who relied on selling fruit as their only source of income. In 1979, Peter took the surplus fruit and started Peter Lehmann Wines. All business was done on a handshake with Peter's word as his bond. They were tough times of course but led by Peter, the Barossa community pulled together not just to make great wine but to preserve the future of the land and the Barossa region. Today our winemaking family includes growers and pickers, viticulturists and winemakers; some who have worked on Peter Lehmann since the beginning and all of whom share the same passion for creating great wine. A spirit of collaboration built on a handshake between the growers and winemakers, between vineyard and the winery has lived on for more than thirty years. Thanks to the skill and dedication of every person involved with the winemaking process, we are able to produce incredible wines that showcase the very best of the region
