The Glen Grant is a genuine Single Malt Scotch established in 1840. One-time smugglers, James and his brother John turned to lawful endeavours. They sought Scotland’s finest location for barley and highland water. In 1872, when the two brothers died, John’s nephew, young James Grant, inherited the business. Aged just 25 at the beginning of his tenure, James later became known as The Major.

Major James Grant was one of the first distillers who pioneered the ground breaking purifiers ensuring only the lightest vapours become liquid. He also designed our uniquely tall, slender pot stills. Together with the purifiers, they revolutionised Scotch whisky – and inspired many famed distilleries.  However, none would match Glen Grant’s elegant, fruity, nutty flavour – and bright, golden colour. He also created our famous Glen Grant Garden. The gardens had several greenhouses with exotic flowers such as orchids, and fruits like peaches, grapes and melons.

THE Glen Grant is the only Speyside distillery to practice the entire whisky-making craft on one site - from barley to bottle. Through tireless ingenuity, we capture the best of Mother Nature in every drop.
